Designing sustainability into Edmonton's LRT expansion

April 15, 2024

Building more than an LRT, we're shaping a city. The Edmonton Metro LRT project was a multiyear project full of pride and partnerships with The City of Edmonton and PCL to create an accessible, urban-style addition to Edmonton’s existing LRT through the Metro Line NW extension.

With Stantec’s previous experience on the City’s LRT lines, Stantec was selected to develop a design plan made up of two phases: a procurement package (design build) for a 1.6-kilometre track, two stations, a light rail vehicle storage facility, and the preliminary design. Stantec’s transit planning experts helped to navigate this project and incorporate new technologies to evolve Edmonton’s transit system for the needs of tomorrow.

Since 2017, Stantec has been on a mission to enhance public transit and prioritize sustainable initiatives like photovoltaic systems and district energy sharing, as well as innovative solutions like minimally reinforced track slabs. Together, with our partners, we're paving the way for a more connected future for our city.
