Two small hydro projects constructed in Samoa have increased electricity supply and helped boost hydro capacity to meet the islands renewable energy goals


Andrew Bird (Dams & hydro sector lead for Asia Pacific) and Alfred Matatia (resident engineer for Stantec New Zealand) recently discussed the importance of renewable energy, especially in places like Samoa, Inside Hydro Review’s latest online publication. While the country may have little impact on climate change, it is greatly affected by the consequences. Samoa is therefore taking a proactive approach to increasing its renewable energy generation and reducing its greenhouse gas emissions. In this article, discover two new hydropower projects that were constructed to keep Samoa on track to greater energy independence and less reliance on costly diesel fuel oil.
